The William, Kate and new born son have left London palace to stay at the Middleton family home.
After introducing the new arrival to great-grandmotherthe Queen and uncle prince Harry at Kensingthon Palace this morning, Prince William and Kate have headed to the Duchess' family home.
As they left, Kate waved to wellwishers from her seat in the back alongside her son, who was born on Monday.
Prince William had driven his wife and son home from St Mary's Hospital yesterday after showing he was a dab hand getting the baby carseat safely plugged in, but he opted for the front passenger seat this time.
Granny Carole, 58, enjoyed her first cuddle with her grandson during a visit to the Lindo wing before he was introduced to the world by his proud parents.
Asked how it felt to be holding the day-old child she said: "Amazing, It's all coming back."
She found him "absolutely beautiful" and was pleased to see her daughter and son-in-law settling in to their new life as parents. She said: "They're both doing really well, we're so thrilled."
The future king's non-royal grandparents are expected to have a key role in shaping the life of the baby prince - although Carole said she had not suggested a name.
Carole and Michael have been an important source of support for William and Kate in their lives together so far.
And the new family of three are set to spend their early weeks at the Middletons' mansion.
Prince William is currently on two weeks' paternity leave from his job as a helicopter search and rescue pilot on Anglesey, but it is expected Kate could stay on with her parents after he returns to work.
It may not be a royal palace but the Middleton home is a large seven-bedroom £4.7 million Georgian property and there is plenty of room for William, Kate and their new baby, as well as offering them the privacy they value so much away from the public limelight.
